Finding Refuge

On our third attempt as a family, we finally managed to visit the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge when it was open to visitors.

Just a few miles from our home, the Arsenal has an amazing history involving munitions for World War II, Cold War bomb shelters, and 165 million gallons of hazardous waste pumped into the ground. And now there are bison running around. Pretty amazing.

By the way, Chase is looking out on Lake Mary. What do you think of that, Nanna?!?

  1. When i lived in Denver in 1969 Rocky Flats was a very dangerous and creepy place with all kinds of poisons.

We used to worry that a plane trying to land at the Old Stapleton might crash into the stockpile.

    TG they cleaned it up!

  2. I like it! Seems I should be there in person to enjoy it with our precious little guy.... but he seems pretty content without me. Sure enjoyed laughing with him last weekend on skype..Papa is funny!! Nanna will hopefully be in her downstairs room by Thursday... could use any "outside " encouragement from family who reinforces it is a "good idea"... she has had major moments of resistance this week but hopefully it is temporary.
Go PATS.... you must have really been coaching them. LOVE YOU ALL EVERYDAY! n.
