Summer Nights & Sidewalk Chalk

Ace and Nora practice writing their names, as well as some dance moves on the front porch this evening.

Memorial Day

Today's holiday was an excellent excuse to inflate Rattlesnake Lake, our newest summer fun toy. Ace enjoyed it alone, then shared it with our neighbors, who came over for a Memorial Day cookout.

Making Beautiful Music Together

On the last full day of his visit, Grandpa not only accompanied Ace on the drums but also took him through the science museum and read him bedtime stories. We're all going to miss G-Pa!

Georgetown to Silver Plume

Mommy, Grandpa and Ace enjoy a sunny day on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Johnny Cash tunes wafted through the air and set the mood for our trip through the beautiful Rocky Mountains. What a day!

School Celebrations

Chase brought Mommy and Daddy to his end-of-the-year school picnic today. He also got to present his teacher, Ms. Stephanie, with the memory book that the children and their parents made as a thank you gift.

Puddle Jumper

Ace checks out the alley drainage patterns after a mid-afternoon rain shower.

Take Us Out to the Ball Game!

SOAR had over 500 tickets to today's Rockies game, so Ace invited Jamey and Parker (and their families) to hang out in the upper deck with him. We're not sure if the kids realized a baseball game was in progress, but they certainly clapped enthusiastically whenever the crowd roared and danced every time music came over the PA system.

Mr. Sandman

Before heading home at the end of our mini-vacation, we returned to the sand dunes for another morning of fun. With his waterworks project visible behind him, the Little Engineer shuts down his excavator, his work complete.

The Great Sand Dunes

We enjoyed a day at the beach, 8,000 feet above sea-level, as we visited Great Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado. Three hundred thirty square miles of sand and the tallest dunes in North America -- what a place for a kid who likes to dig!

Warning Signs

The only way to begin a family get-away to Great Sand Dunes National Park is by breaking the rules.

Jacob Marley

Today we were visited by Jacob Marley's ghost, chains and all.

Pop!

Ace and Mommy picked up this giant ball this afternoon and we kicked and threw it around the courtyard for a good 30 minutes before it landed in the rose bush. It was fun while it lasted!

At the Car Wash, Yeah!

Chase meticulously cleans his excavator after some serious construction work today.

World's Best Mom

We celebrated Mother's Day by taking a hike in Roxborough State Park. Ace was a trooper through most of the journey and most enjoyed playing with Mommy up at this fantastic lookout.

Can you feel the love? It's fortunate for the two guys in the family that we have the Best Mommy Ever!

In the Eye of the Beholder

Ace takes in one of the many pieces of art at Red Line Studio, where the SOAR kindergarteners showed off their installation, "How to Become a Superhero in 23 Days."

While he may not be a full fledged superhero yet, the Critter does consider himself quite the art critic. Clearly, he was intrigued by this piece.

Slimy Salamander

Our adorable neighbors, Charlie and Julian, prove again what awesome kids they are. Mommy really didn't want to go to the park after dinner. These guys swooped in and saved the day by playing trucks, mowing the lawn, and showing off their new pets. Julian even helped Chase to hold his salamander appropriately named Sal.

Mommy's Dinner Date

Mommy got to have this guy all to herself for dinner tonight while Daddy MCd the SOAR Talent Show.

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

Chillin' on the Porch

Ace finds it pretty fun to sit in his baby bear chair and wait for a Colorado thunderstorm lightning show.

The Little Engineer engages in some free-form construction in the ally.

Unexpected Gifts

Chase enjoys an unexpected present from Grandpa Fred after dinner. Thank you! As you can see we are still working on completing the puzzle correctly.

What Big Teeth You Have!

At the Denver Museum of Nature and Science this morning, Chase played in the fossil area of the Children's Discovery Zone with one of the young volunteers. When they uncovered some Dino chompers and the girl asked Ace if he had teeth, he quickly showed off his pearly whites.

May the 4th (be with You)

As if it wasn't enough that today was Free Comic Book Day (Chase picked up an Elmo issue at Mile High Comics), it was also Star Wars Day, which we celebrated at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum. Turns out, there are people who build their own R2 units - as seen here - which clearly exceeds the geek-level of even this little Critter.

Emergency Vehicles

Chase throws Mommy the stink eye as she reveals that after 3 hours it is time to leave the sand park.

Thursday, May 2, 2013

Stuck on You

Chase has a newfound interest in stickers, illustrated here by the fact that he found it hilarious to put one on his own neck.

April Showers Bring May Snow?

In less than a month, the neighborhood pools will be open. Repeat to self again and again.
